The Breathwork Emotional Model provides (see bottom of this article) a generalised overview of how our emotions are carried within our body. The emotions are stored in our body like onion layers, one on top of the other. When we let go of one layer of suppressed emotions it then reveals the next layer that is available to be worked on.

Although Guilt and Shame are listed as an emotion, are not actual emotions as such. This is because they are not energies that are generated within our own bodies but are it is something that it is given to us from an outside source (e.g parent could make us ashamed for something we did). Because they are not energies generated within the body they cannot not be expelled from our system on their own. Shame itself is such a heavy 'emotion' that you can liken it to tar which sticks to our very bones. The only way to expel both of these 'emotions' is via anger or sadness (crying). By moving either of these two emotions (shouting, screaming in anger or crying) we move guilt and shame along with them, i.e the expression of anger and sadness are the path for which guilt and shame are removed from our system.

The multiple layers of emotions keep our core beliefs about ourselves in place and locked. The only way to break or clear these core beliefs is to release the many layers of emotions that keep them locked in our subconsciousness. The more emotions we shed or release the more we loosen our hold on these core beliefs.

The core beliefs that we carry about ourselves cover up and block our true essence like a shield. Because our true essence is blocked by the core belief our manifesting energies are not able to reach it and so end up reflecting back out from the core belief rather then our true essence. Thus we keep manifesting from our core belief system.

Examples of core beliefs we may have are:

  • I am bad.

  • I am stupid.

  • I am the wrong sex.

  • I don't deserve love.

  • I don't exist.

  • I'm not wanted. etc. etc.

Each core belief has sub beliefs that go a long with it. An example would be that because I am bad, I must be punished (as we all want bad people to be punished), as such, could be feeling guilty even for things they haven't done, or are constantly waiting on someone to have a go at them for something they have done (all subconscious thinking). Most people are not aware that this is going on until they have breathwork sessions to reveal it and they are made aware of whats going on.

It is said that "no man is an island". Everything we believe and feel is formed in relation to another person. All the beliefs you have, and the way you see the world is set by the age of around 10 years old. The child will take on what is reflected back to them from their environment. If the child has reflected back to them that they are stupid they will take that belief on.

I have witnessed very athletic people who on the ego level believe they are very strong and tough and can handle anything ( a cover up or counter belief to deal with the real core belief of feeling weak or broken) where when put in very advanced breathwork sessions (only done in advanced group settings, not in individual therapy sessions) where they find themselves collapsing and not able to keep up the session and they are shown that they do not have the strength, toughness or capacity as they have led themselves to believe to have had. By breaking these core beliefs down, the person becomes stronger because they are no longer relying on the ego to convince they are strong but their true strength from the true inner essence starts to shine through.

Breathwork with added Behavioral Decision Processing techniques help reveal your core beliefs that you are running. Breathwork breakdowns the hold we have with our Ego masks and gets straight to what is covering up our true essence.

To get rid of one core belief will take 2-3 years of solid and constant inner work using cathartic breathwork. That shows you how deeply buried our core beliefs are held within ourselves. No other healing modality will help you in removing your core beliefs in the same amount of time or to the depth that cathartic breathwork does. Counseling or other talk therapies could take 20 years for some people just to deal with one issue in your life and still not clear it.
